Do you shoot drama, commercials and documentary, or specialise?

I work across all three — scripted drama and comedy, broadcast documentary and factual series, and commercials and music promos. It means I bring a narrative eye to commercial work and production polish to documentary.

Where are you based and do you travel?

Accepted Answer

I'm a Director of Photography based in Glasgow, Scotland, and I regularly work across the whole of the UK. Travel and overnights are no problem for the right project.

Do you crew up or work solo?

Accepted Answer

Both. I can operate as a solo shooter for lean documentary and corporate jobs, or build and lead a full camera and lighting team for drama and commercials.

What camera and lighting kit do you work with?

Accepted Answer

I own a self-contained Canon Cinema camera, lighting and grip package, and I'm comfortable speccing and hiring additional kit to match a production's needs and budget. See the Kit List for the current package.

Question 6

Do you only work as a DoP, or also as an operator or lighting cameraman?

Accepted Answer

I work as a camera operator and lighting cameraman as well as a Director of Photography, and I'm happy to be booked in whichever role suits the production. I'm not exclusive to DoP work, and I'm flexible on rate depending on the role and the job — operating and lighting days aren't charged at a DoP premium.
