The differentiator

A fully electric shoot. No generator required.

Very few DoPs can offer this. The Kia PV5 electric van is charged on 100% renewable electricity and runs a 3.6kW V2L system — on-location power for camera and lighting with zero generator fuel and zero tailpipe emissions in transit.

  • 3.6kW on-location power from the van's V2L system — no diesel generator on set.
  • Supports productions working toward albert certification, formatted for the albert toolkit.
  • Emissions data and charging records available on request for supplier invoices.

Owner-operator

One call books a complete unit.

A two-camera Canon Cinema EOS package with cine glass, full grip and a versatile RGBWW + HMI lighting kit — self-sufficient and road-ready in the Kia PV5. No hire house required.

Need more than that? I can crew up from a trusted network of Scottish crew, and source additional camera, lighting or grip when a job calls for it. Tell me about the project and we'll work out exactly what it needs.

About

Nearly 30 years behind the camera.

I'm a Director of Photography, lighting cameraman and camera operator based in Glasgow, working across Scotland, the UK and worldwide. The work spans drama and film, commercials, and documentary — from An Clò Mòr for BBC ALBA to second-unit on T2 Trainspotting for Danny Boyle, and the Emmy-nominated The Future with Hannah Fry.

I light to suit the work — naturalistic when that's right, bold when the brief invites it — compose carefully, and keep a set calm and collaborative. I crew up when a job needs it and work solo when it doesn't — owner-operator with a full van-ready kit, so one booking gets you a complete unit.

Exhibit A, on the matter of experience: a considerably younger me with Sir Sean. Nearly 30 years in the camera department will do that.
