Director of Photography · Glasgow · UK & worldwide
Director of Photography for hire in Scotland.
Lead DoP for drama, commercials and documentary — lighting led by the story, a strong eye for composition and a calm, collaborative set. Nearly 30 years of credits, owner-operator with a full Canon Cinema EOS package, mobile from Glasgow across the UK and worldwide.
Approach
Light that looks like it belongs there.
I lean naturalistic — an image that feels true to the place and the moment, motivated and unfussy. But the light serves the story, not a signature: when a brief wants something bold or stylised, that's what it gets. That flexibility holds whether it's a scripted drama interior, a brand film on a tight agency clock, or a documentary where the light has to be found, not built.
On set I keep things calm and collaborative. Directors get a DoP who solves problems quietly and keeps the day moving; producers get someone who's honest about what's achievable in the schedule and protects the budget where it matters.
And because I'm an owner-operator, the camera and lighting decisions, the kit, and the person operating it are all one conversation — spec'd to your brief, not a hire-house catalogue.
Lighting led by the work
Naturalistic by instinct, bold when the brief invites it — built fast and struck faster.
Single or multi-camera
From a one-person doc rig to a fully crewed commercial, spec'd to brief and budget.
Own kit, van-ready
Two-camera Canon Cinema EOS, cine glass, grip and lighting — no hire house required.
Calm on set
Collaborative with directors, straight with producers, easy for crew to work alongside.
Selected frames
The light, in stills.
A few frames that show the approach — naturalistic where it needs to be, bold where the brief invites it. Drama, opera and music, lit on location and in the studio.

Questions producers ask
Honest answers, no hard sell.
Who is a good Director of Photography in Scotland?
+
I'm a Glasgow-based DoP with nearly 30 years across drama, commercials and documentary, working throughout Scotland, the UK and worldwide. Credits include An Clò Mòr for BBC ALBA, second-unit DoP on T2 Trainspotting for Danny Boyle, and the Emmy-nominated The Future with Hannah Fry. I own a two-camera Canon Cinema EOS package with full lighting and grip, so you can book the camera, the kit and the operator in one call.
Do you shoot drama, commercials and documentary, or specialise?
+
All three. The work moves between scripted drama, commercials and branded content, and documentary and factual. Each draws on the same approach — lighting led by the story and careful composition — adapted to the format, schedule and budget.
Single or multi-camera — and do you crew up or work solo?
+
Both. Shoots are spec'd to brief and budget, from a one-person documentary setup to a fully crewed multi-camera commercial. I crew up when a job needs it and work solo when it doesn't.
Do you have your own camera and lighting kit?
+
Yes — an owner-operator package: two Canon C300 Mk III bodies, a Canon R5C, Canon cine primes and L-series zooms, a DJI Ronin RS2, plus a full RGBWW, HMI and tungsten lighting kit and grip. Everything travels in a Kia PV5 van. See the full kit list.
Where are you based and do you travel?
+
Based in Glasgow, available across Scotland — including Edinburgh and the Highlands — the UK and worldwide. Mobile in an electric Kia PV5 van that carries crew and kit, and I can run a fully electric, generator-free shoot where that helps.
How do I check your availability and rates?
+
Send the dates, the format and a short brief to info@keithingram.co.uk or call 07712 000 605. I'll come back with availability, a kit recommendation and a straight day rate.
