Keith Ingram · Lighting Cameraman
Self-shooting lighting cameraman, Scotland.
A complete one-person unit for documentary and factual — own camera, own lighting, own transport. I find the light, shoot it, and move fast with a lean crew, anywhere from a Glasgow interior to a Highland hillside.
Approach
One person, one van, a full unit.
A lot of factual and documentary work needs to move fast and light — a small footprint, a quick rapport with contributors, and an operator who can both light a scene and shoot it. That’s the lighting cameraman’s job, and it’s where I’m most self-sufficient.
I carry a complete kit — camera, a versatile LED and HMI lighting package, grip and audio — in the Kia PV5, so I arrive as a finished unit. No hire house, no waiting on a separate sparks call, no second vehicle.
The result is broadcast-quality images from a setup small enough to follow a story wherever it goes, on a budget that works for factual.
Self-shooting
I light and operate as one role — quick to set, quick to strike, fast rapport with contributors.
Own lighting kit
RGBWW LED panels, HMI and tungsten — a full package that travels in the van.
Lean & mobile
A complete unit in one electric van: camera, lights, grip, audio, transport.
Broadcast-ready
C300 Mk III / R5C, Canon log workflow, delivery-spec files for broadcast and online.

Questions producers ask
Honest answers, no hard sell.
What is a lighting cameraman?
+
A lighting cameraman lights and operates the camera as a single role, typically self-shooting on documentary and factual. Rather than a separate DoP, gaffer and operator, one person designs the look, sets the light and shoots — ideal for lean-crew, fast-moving jobs.
Do you self-shoot, and bring your own lighting?
+
Yes. I’m a complete one-person unit: Canon C300 Mk III / R5C, a full RGBWW LED, HMI and tungsten lighting kit, grip, audio and transport in a Kia PV5 van. No hire house or separate lighting call. See the kit list.
Is the footage broadcast quality?
+
Yes — Canon Cinema EOS cameras, a Canon Log workflow and delivery-spec files for broadcast and online. Same image quality as a crewed shoot, from a smaller footprint.
Will you travel for documentary work?
+
Yes. Glasgow-based, working across Scotland, the UK and worldwide. The van carries the whole unit — and can run a fully electric, generator-free shoot.
Can you record sound as well?
+
For self-shooting factual I carry radio mics and a boom for clean contributor sound. For larger jobs I’ll bring in a dedicated sound recordist.
