R5 C · Cinema RAW Light LT · 8K FF~1,115 Mbps~502 GB
R5 C · XF-AVC Intra · 4K DCI410 Mbps~185 GB

All rates approximate, from Canon spec sheets. GB per hour = Mbps × 3,600 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000. Actual sizes vary with scene complexity, firmware and settings.

Record time on Canon media

512 GB CFexpress Type B · C300 Mark III · 4K DCI 25 fps
CodecRecord time
Cinema RAW Light HQ~68 min
Cinema RAW Light ST~2h 17m
XF-AVC Intra · 410 Mbps~2h 46m
XF-AVC Long GOP · 160 Mbps~7h

A 1 TB card roughly doubles these times. The C70 records to SD (V90); all other bodies here use CFexpress Type B.

Which media does each camera take?

C400, C500 Mark II, C300 Mark III, C80 and R5 C record RAW to CFexpress Type B (Angelbird AV Pro MK2, ProGrade Gold or similar); most also offer SD card proxy recording. The C70 records everything to V90 SD cards. Always add roughly 20% headroom over the calculated total when ordering media — reloads never land exactly on card boundaries.

Canon data — quick answers

How much data does Cinema RAW Light record per hour?
On the C400 at 6K full frame 25 fps: HQ is about 1,800 Mbps — roughly 810 GB per hour; ST about 886 Mbps — roughly 399 GB per hour; LT about 576 Mbps — roughly 259 GB per hour. On the C300 Mark III at 4K DCI 25 fps: HQ is about 450 GB per hour, ST about 225 GB per hour and LT about 113 GB per hour.
How much data does XF-AVC use per hour?
XF-AVC Intra at 4K DCI up to 29.97 fps runs at 410 Mbps — about 185 GB per hour. XF-AVC Long GOP at 160 Mbps is about 72 GB per hour, and 1080p XF-AVC drops to roughly 20–72 GB per hour depending on bitrate.
How many minutes fit on a 512 GB CFexpress card in a C300 Mark III?
At 4K DCI 25 fps: about 68 minutes in Cinema RAW Light HQ, about 2 hours 17 minutes in Cinema RAW Light ST, about 2 hours 46 minutes in XF-AVC Intra at 410 Mbps, or around 7 hours in XF-AVC Long GOP at 160 Mbps. A 1 TB card roughly doubles those times.
Are these Canon data rates exact?
They are close approximations from Canon specification sheets. Actual file sizes vary slightly with scene complexity, firmware and settings, so add around 20% headroom when ordering media for a shoot.
