Nikon ZR data rates per hour

These are Nikon's own published bitrates for the ZR, converted to data per hour at 25 fps. Use the calculator above for other frame rates, sensor modes and record times.

RAW formats

Nikon ZR · 25 fps · CFexpress Type B
Codec & formatData ratePer hour
ProRes RAW HQ · 6048×34024,170 Mbps~1.88 TB
ProRes RAW HQ · 4032×22681,870 Mbps~842 GB
R3D NE / N-RAW HQ · 6048×34021,590 Mbps~716 GB

N-RAW Normal · 4032×2268380 Mbps~171 GB

R3D NE and N-RAW High quality share one bitrate table on the ZR — both 12-bit, both requiring the CFexpress Type B slot.

Which media does the ZR take?

One CFexpress Type B slot and one microSD UHS-I slot. Every RAW format — R3D NE, N-RAW and ProRes RAW HQ — needs the CFexpress slot; microSD is only viable for the H.265 and H.264 modes. Add roughly 20% headroom over the calculated total when ordering media: reloads never land exactly on card boundaries.

Nikon ZR data — quick answers

How much data does the ZR record per hour in N-RAW?
At 6048×3402 25 fps, R3D NE / N-RAW High quality runs at 1,590 Mbps — about 716 GB per hour. N-RAW Normal at the same setting is 810 Mbps, about 365 GB per hour.
What is R3D NE, and why is it on a Nikon?
R3D NE is RED's R3D format in a Nikon body, following Nikon's acquisition of RED. On the ZR it shares the High quality bitrate table with N-RAW — both 12-bit, both to the CFexpress Type B slot.
How long will a 1 TB CFexpress card record?
At 6K 25 fps: roughly 84 minutes of R3D NE / N-RAW High quality, about 165 minutes of N-RAW Normal, or about 32 minutes of ProRes RAW HQ.
Are these figures exact?
These are Nikon's published numbers, not estimates. One caveat: Nikon's table lists H.265 10-bit 5376×3024 at 23.97p as 1,540 Mbps, inconsistent with the 340 Mbps shown at every neighbouring frame rate and almost certainly an error in the source. This calculator uses 340 Mbps there.
